Archives: Farm house near Hosur, Tamil Nadu – Built Version

The final version of the farmhouse close to Bangalore: A house for a Bangalore-based photographer, located around 40km outside of the city in rural Tamil Nadu. Expansive views, seemingly untouched rural life and an amazing tranquility dominate the area. The entire landscape moves in gentle waves, mountains rise in the distance. Granite boulders, beautiful contours and several Mango and Banyan trees define the immediate surrounding. A perfect place for the photographer who despite being at home in the modern world of commerce and international travel loves the simplicity of rural life. One of the farmhouses also, where unlike in so many others hiding behind the name agriculture plays a defining role.

The design is a logical conclusion of the previous options, light, elegant, balancing above the ridge of granite boulders, offering views across the beautiful landscape.

Well visible here is the reinforced RCC slab taking the cantilever load. Despite an elaborate structural design by BL Manjunath from Bangalore the front portion of the cantilevered sacked slightly much to the nuisance of the architect (which brings the topic of qualified contractors in non-urban settings …)

The driving idea in all the designs was to connect the house to the amazing landscape that surrounds it … This final option has the option to open the sides almost completely due to some large sliding panels … Open them and landscape and house become one, close and one can enjoy the protection of a well-scaled house.

    1. Dear John,
I am sorry but the people living in the house are concerned of their privacy. It is not up to me to grant access.
      I hope you understand.
      Best regards.
      Fabian
